Don't wan't to be an American Idiot - 24th September 2017

“Don’t wanna be an American idiot”

We British aren’t new to stealing words from other languages and making them our own. One language we can’t stand stealing from is actually English, well American English. Americanisms have wiggled their way into our lives and some people just aren’t having it. What’s the problem?
Many people associate Americanisms to people that lack in intelligence well here’s why they’re wrong. Languages have formed simply for us complex beings to be able to communicate how we feel to each other.
Except many are taking it way to seriously saying things such as, “They’re replacing the words we gave them.” We’ve become two major countries divided by the fact that 'chips' are ‘fries’ and 'chips' are 'crisps.’ As you see there it all gets very confusing. That’s another statement we always hear, “It’s so confusing.” Be honest with yourself, anyone intelligent will realise that English is different wherever you go. Scottish call small people “wee” which isn’t at all a reference to going to the loo. Colloquialisms aren’t absolutely trashed on so why are Americanism? Is it that we don’t want a country we founded to take over our language? Is it that we want to have absolute power over words that we stole in the first place? There are so many questions with no answers. Here’s how I see it. We're stupid. Stupid for thinking that a wider variety of words in our language is damaging our 'posh' culture.
Americanisms have made our language vivid and given it life, there’s no denying that English didn’t have greatness beforehand but now it’s ten times better. So what about people getting confused, we’re the British empire, we’re taking over the world again yet this time without blood and with a language so complex that it’s easy to communicate. As we travel through the years we become more and more accepting of new ideas. Let’s accept this one.

William Shakespeare himself used many Americanisms. Many things we see as Americanisms are actually forged by him. Back in the good ol' days of the plague and colonisation. Those people believing that Shakespeare is the purest of writers are all denial that he would use improper English. Well he did. Bet that’s blown your mind. Mini mind bombs gently exploding in your head. Let's make English a beautiful language with inputs from various other languages that make us look in awe and say, "Wow!" Our society is changing, we're no longer racists. We're no longer homophobes. Therefore we should no longer be brutally pompous. Let's get our act together. Stop thinking that the USA is a country filled with Donald Trump lookalikes. We're no longer people who enjoy tea in the afternoon. We like coffee too. Stop pretending we're all so traditional. We've set up a country that is now prosperous. Let's be proud of them, they're our little sibling. Let's grow them up to be the best damn thing they can. Stop making barriers that aren't needed.
Let's be British and give those guys a hand. After all. They gave us McDonalds.
